MONTBLLANC – SOPHISTICATION AND ART
Founded in 1906 by Germans August Eberstein, Alfred Nehemias and Claus-Johannes Voss, the luxury brand Montblanc began its activities under the name Simplo Filler Pen Company.
Eberstein and Nehemias were fascinated by quill pens, a huge hit in the fashion world at that time, and after a trip to the United States, they decided to develop a version of a fountain pen that wouldn't leak. Shortly afterwards, Nehemias passed away and Eberstein looked for new partners to carry out the business. The name Montblanc was inspired by the highest mountain in Western Europe and became officially known after the launch of the first fountain pen in 1909 called Rouge et Noir (which translated into Portuguese means “red and black”, colors used in the design). ![]() In 1913, the image left by the snow on the mountain peak inspired the symbol of a star with six rounded points and to this day forms the brand's visual identity, translating the design, quality and inspirational lifestyle The first store was opened in 1919 in Hamburg, selling exclusively pens. Shortly afterwards, other stores of the luxury brand were opened in Berlin, Leipzig, Breslau, Hanover and Bremen. With the launch of the Meisterstück (“masterpiece” in German) fountain pen in 1924, Montblanc reached the peak of the most prestigious luxury brands. With timeless design and innovative raw materials, this collection was honored as a masterpiece of design by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In the same year, Montblanc launched a permanent guarantee for its products, boosting sales and guaranteeing the perpetuity of its luxury items. |
