The pandemic affects women's income more than men's
According to a study by the Economic and Social Council of Spain (CES) , the pandemic has reduced women's incomes by 4% more than those of men. The organization also warns that Spanish women have been more affected than the European Union average, and sees it as essential to take measures to end the gender gap.
The report "Women, jobs and care: proposals for the future" carried out by the Economic and Social Council of Spain (CES), reflects that women's Special Data incomes have been more affected than men's by the pandemic. The report also states that Spanish women are more disadvantaged than the average for European countries. Before the pandemic, Spain ranked sixth in the EU gender equality ranking. The CES also shows that women are more exposed to the virus, since care activities normally fall on them, making them more vulnerable to infection. The Council advocates taking measures to protect women, end the pay gap and make society more equal. ![]() The organization denounces the increase in positions that deny gender violence. According to the study, the percentage of young people who do not believe in sexist violence rose from 12% in 2019 to 20% in 2020. The report also highlights the increase in cyberbullying, which, according to official EU data, affects 10% of young women. The text also contains sections on ecological transition, new technologies and territorial and social cohesion; among other topics, all of them treated with a clear gender perspective. The report, published on April 27, offers a series of proposals to achieve a more egalitarian society by taking advantage of the recovery after the pandemic and building a future free of gender violence. Among the measures, it proposes a Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan focused mainly on achieving equality between men and women. |
