Bose Frames will soon cease to exist

Bose is discontinuing its Frames line of smart glasses with audio, which will no longer be available later this year. The news was first reported by Digital Trends , which quotes Bose as saying it is in the process of phasing out the product line. Bose also separately confirmed the news to The Verge . Although Bose originally had several styles for Frames, the only version still listed on the site is the sporty Tempo, similar to Oakley. However, the product is technically out of stock and is 50 percent off. According to the report, Bose has sold most of its remaining inventory, and while some units may appear between now and the holidays, the glasses will not be available after.


However, active warranties will still be honored. The Europe Mobile Number List report also notes that while the Frames line is being discontinued, Bose hasn't completely given up on the open-ear category yet. The Verge also reached out to Bose to clarify whether this includes future plans for smart glasses, but the company declined to comment further. The first version of Bose Frames came as a pair of smart glasses with audio-based augmented reality – a showcase for Bose AR. You could receive audio instructions via GPS, for example, and there were some audio-based story games. There were plans for New Balance to launch a fitness app that never took off. As someone who has used both iterations of Frames, and even ran a half marathon using Bose Frames Tempo, the Frames were comfortable to wear and had good battery life and better than average audio for the category.
