More than a million people have signed an online petition against British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament to force a hard Brexit. Large demonstrations multiply in London and throughout the country hours after the queen accepted Johnson's request. Protesters promise a campaign of "civil disobedience" designed to stop Johnson from ultimately following through with his entire plan. This Wednesday, the queen accepted Johnson's request to suspend Parliament from mid-September for a month. The initiative responds to a plan with which Johnson wants to prevent parliamentarians from preventing the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union without an agreement on October 31. This move has caused outrage across the political spectrum. In Trafalgar Square, protesters carried banners with messages ranging from "defend democracy" to "stop the coup" to "it's time to be like Hong Kong." A petition against the suspension of Parliament has gathered more than a million signatures online in just a few hours. Many protests have been organized by activist and journalist Owen Jones.
